Biography

Saint Theophylact of Ohrid, also known as Theophylact of Bulgaria or Theophylact the Bulgarian, was a prominent figure in the Orthodox Church during the 11th and 12th centuries. Born around the year 1055, he dedicated his life to serving God and His Church. Theophylact started his career as a clerk in the renowned Hagia Sophia church in Constantinople, the imperial capital of the Byzantine Empire. His exceptional intellect, piety, and dedication to his faith quickly made him well-known among his peers and superiors. Recognizing his potential, Theophylact was ordained as a deacon and made the official interpreter for the Patriarch of Constantinople. Despite his reluctance, Theophylact was eventually appointed as the bishop of Ohrid, a city located in Macedonia, in the year 1091.
