Saint Basolus, also known as Basolus of Limoges and Basle of Verzy, was a devout Benedictine monk who lived in Verzy, France. He was born around the year 555 in the city of Limoges, located in central France. Little is known about his early life before he entered religious life. Basolus dedicated himself to a life of solitude and prayer and chose to join the Benedictine Order. He became a monk at the monastery in Verzy, situated near the city of Rheims in northeastern France. In Verzy, Basolus was known for his piety, commitment to the monastic rule, and his reputation as a miracle worker. After living as a monk for an extended period in Verzy, Basolus felt called to a more solitary life. He decided to withdraw from the monastery and became a hermit, finding a secluded hill near Rheims to live on. For forty years, Basolus dedicated himself to meditative prayer, fasting, and living a life of asceticism. During his time as a hermit, Basolus gained a reputation for performing miracles and attracting followers who sought his guidance and intercession. People would travel from far and wide to seek his blessings and prayers. His holiness and spiritual insight became renowned throughout the region. Saint Basolus passed away in 620 of natural causes, having lived a long and devout life. His tomb became a site of veneration and his relics were enshrined in a monastery built over his original resting place in the year 879. The monastery served as a place of pilgrimage, drawing countless faithful seeking the intercession of the saint. Although Saint Basolus was never officially declared a patron saint, his memory and legacy continued to be celebrated by the faithful.
