Saint Anselmo of Bomarzo, also known as Anselm, was born in the early 6th century in the Mugnano region of Bomarzo, Italy. He was born into a wealthy and devoutly Catholic family who recognized his intellectual gifts and encouraged him to study the Bible from a young age. When the last of his family members passed away, Anselmo made the decision to give away his inherited wealth to the poor. Seeking a life of complete devotion and solitude, he retired to the life of a hermit, dedicating his time to prayer and study. Anselmo's exceptional piety and deep knowledge of the scriptures soon made him widely respected and revered by both the local parishioners and clergy. Despite his desire to live in seclusion, Anselmo could not escape the recognition of the people around him. Recognizing him as the most learned and devout man in their midst, the local community and clergy chose him to be the new bishop of Bomarzo. Despite his initial reluctance, Anselmo accepted the responsibility and dedicated himself to serving the spiritual needs of the people. Saint Anselmo of Bomarzo was known as a miracle worker throughout his life. Through his fervent prayers, he was able to heal the sick, drive out demons from the possessed, and even intervene with miraculous weather to protect the city of Bomarzo from invading forces. He lived a life of exemplary humility, always placing the needs of others before his own. Anselmo demonstrated extraordinary compassion and generosity towards the poor and marginalized. His love for God and his fellow humans was evident in every aspect of his life, serving as an inspiration to all who encountered him. Saint Anselmo passed away in the latter 6th century from natural causes in Bomarzo, Italy. He was buried in the floor in front of the San Sebastiano altar in the church of Santa Maria Assunta in Cielo in Bomarzo. On June 16, 1647, his relics were re-enshrined at the high altar in the Bomarzo Cathedral. Although Saint Anselmo of Bomarzo was not officially canonized by the pre-congregation process. His deep spirituality, selflessness, and miraculous works of healing have made him a beloved figure in the Catholic Church. He is venerated as a saint and recognized as the patron of Bomarzo, Italy. His feast days are celebrated on April 24th and the 3rd Sunday in June, which commemorates the translation of his relics.
