Biography

Saint Alto of Altomünster, also known as Alto of Ireland or Altone, was a revered Catholic hermit and founder of the Altomünster Monastery in Germany. Born in Ireland, little is known about his early life and upbringing. However, it is believed that Alto felt a strong calling to dedicate his life to God and seek solitude in a life of prayer and contemplation. In pursuit of his spiritual journey, Alto ventured away from his homeland and settled in a dense forest near Augsburg, Bavaria in Germany. It was here that he embraced the life of a hermit, living in isolation and devoting himself entirely to spiritual practices. His intense devotion to God and his virtuous way of life soon earned him a reputation for holiness, attracting numerous individuals who sought his guidance and instruction on their own spiritual journeys.
