Biography

Blessed Teresa Bracco was born on February 24, 1924, in the small village of Santa Giulia, Dego, Savona, Italy. She was the beloved daughter of Giacomo Bracco and Anna Pera, who were humble and devoutly Catholic farmers.

From a young age, Teresa exhibited a deep piety and devotion to the Eucharist and the Virgin Mary. She had a profound love for the Blessed Sacrament, often entering into ecstatic trances while fixating her gaze upon it. Her spiritual life was marked by regular attendance at daily Mass, during which she fervently participated, and she would console herself by praying the rosary while fulfilling her daily chores.

Despite the challenges of their humble circumstances, Teresa's parents nurtured her faith and encouraged her in her devotion. They instilled in her a strong moral compass and a commitment to living a life centered on Christ.

Tragically, in 1944, during the tumultuous years of World War II, Teresa's life was cut short by a brutal act of violence. She was confronted by a Nazi officer who attempted to assault her. In heroic defense of her purity and faith, Teresa resisted her assailant, ultimately resulting in her untimely death at the age of 20. She was shot in the woods near her hometown of Santa Giulia, Dego, Savona, Italy, on August 28, 1944.

The profound impact of Teresa's virtuous life and her courageous sacrifice did not go unnoticed. On July 7, 1997, Pope John Paul II officially recognized her martyrdom by decree. A year later, on May 24, 1998, she was beatified by the same Pope, who praised her for her unwavering commitment to her faith and her exemplary virtue even in the face of danger.

Her life is a poignant reminder of the importance of moral integrity and the sacrificial love that characterized her young existence.
