Biography

Blessed Fernando Salinas Romeo, a devout priest and member of the Benedictine Solesmes Congregation, was born on May 31, 1883, in the town of Pozán de Vero, Huesca, Spain. His unwavering dedication to his faith led him on a path of selflessness and sacrifice, ultimately culminating in his martyrdom during the Spanish Civil War.

After years of spiritual formation, Fernando was ordained as a priest and dedicated his life to serving the Church and its followers. He exemplified the virtues of his Benedictine congregation, striving for holiness through prayer, contemplation, and obedience. His ministry focused on guiding others in their journey of faith and fostering community devotion.

Sadly, the Spanish Civil War broke out, engulfing the country in a violent and chaotic struggle. In this tumultuous period, tensions ran high between various factions, including those who sought to suppress religious practice. As a faithful servant of God, Father Fernando refused to abandon his duty and continued to minister to his flock despite the growing danger.

Tragically, on August 28, 1936, Father Fernando Salinas Romeo's devotion to his faith led to his martyrdom. He was captured in Barbastro, Huesca, Spain, for his unyielding commitment to Christ and the Catholic Church. The circumstances surrounding his death were marked by unwarranted violence and cruelty, as he was executed for refusing to renounce his beliefs.

Recognizing the profound faith and sacrifice of Father Fernando Salinas Romeo, Pope Francis declared him venerable on June 3, 2013, with a decree of martyrdom. His beatification then took place on October 13, 2013, in a solemn ceremony held at the Complex Educatiu in Tarragona, Spain. Cardinal Angelo Amato presided over the ceremony, celebrating Father Fernando's exemplary life and his eternal bond with God.

Today, Blessed Fernando Salinas Romeo stands as a symbol of unwavering faith and courage in the face of persecution.
