Saint Vedastus of Vercelli, also known as Saint Vedast or Saint Vaast, was a prominent figure in the early days of Christianity in Italy. Born in the mid-6th century, not much is known about his early life or family background. However, his later contributions as the Bishop of Vercelli, Italy, have left a lasting legacy. Vedastus became the bishop of Vercelli at a time when the city was under tremendous distress. The Bavari, a group of Germanic tribes, had attacked and sacked the see city. Alongside the material devastation caused by the invasion, the spiritual well-being of the people was severely affected.
