Biography

Saint Troiecia of Poitiers, also known as Troiecia of Rodez, Trièsc, Triese, Trjaise, Troaisc, Troaise, Troese, Troèse, Troiecia, Trojecia, and Trojécie, was a fourth-century hermitess who lived in the area of Rodez, France. Born in Poitiers, France, she lived a life dedicated to prayer, asceticism, and solitude. Saint Troiecia is known for her profound spirituality and her deep desire to seek God in solitude. In her early life, she felt a strong calling to withdraw from the world and dedicate herself entirely to prayer and contemplation. Inspired by the example of other early Christian hermits and anchorites, she sought a secluded place where she could focus on her spiritual journey. Embracing the life of a hermitess, Troiecia settled in the area of Rodez, where she transformed a small cave into her dwelling. In this humble abode, she devoted herself to prayer, fasting, and penance. Her days were spent in constant communion with God, and her nights were filled with vigils and contemplation of the divine mysteries. Saint Troiecia's austere way of life attracted the attention of the local community, who sought her spiritual guidance and wisdom. Although her canonization took place prior to the establishment of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, she is recognized as a saint in the Catholic Church. Her feast days are celebrated on August 16th in Poitiers, France, June 9th in Rodez, France, and July 21st in Rodez, France. Saint Troiecia is revered as the patron saint of Poitiers, France, where she was born.
