Biography

Saint Stratonicus, also known as Estratonico, Stratonik, or Stratonico, was a devoted servant to Saint Hermylus at Singidunum, which is modern-day Belgrade. He lived during a tumultuous period in Christian history, characterized by the persecutions of Licinius. His unwavering faith and commitment to his beliefs ultimately led to his martyrdom alongside Saint Hermylus. Little is known about the early life of Saint Stratonicus. However, it is believed that he was born in Singidunum, which was part of the Roman Empire at the time. He dedicated his life to serving God and assisting Saint Hermylus, a revered Christian leader in the region. During the reign of Licinius, Christians faced severe persecution for their beliefs. Licinius, being an opponent of Christianity, sought to eradicate the faith and suppress its followers. In the year 315, Saint Stratonicus, together with Saint Hermylus, became targets of this persecution. Accounts of their martyrdom indicate that they were both subjected to cruel and inhumane treatment. However, their faith remained steadfast, inspiring other believers in the face of such persecution. The exact circumstances surrounding their death are not entirely clear, but it is documented that they ultimately met their demise by drowning in the River Danube. Saint Stratonicus and Saint Hermylus were recognized for their martyrdom and the strength of their faith.
