Biography

Saint Speciosus was a wealthy landowner in Campania, Italy. Not much is known about his early life, but it is certain that he led a comfortable life and had a deep love for the Catholic faith. At some point in his life, Speciosus and his brother Gregory decided to forsake their wealth and worldly possessions to pursue a life of devotion to God. They became monks and took the cowl from Saint Benedict at the renowned Monte Cassino monastery. After leaving Monte Cassino, Speciosus and Gregory went to Terracina, where they devoted themselves to a life of asceticism and contemplation.
