Saint Simplicio of Autun

Biography

Saint Simplicio of Autun, also known as Simplicius, was born to the Frankish nobility in a time when Christianity was still in its early stages of development. Not much is known about his early life, but it is believed that he was raised in a devout Christian family and received a good education. At some point in his life, Simplicio entered into marriage, embracing the responsibilities and joys that come with this sacred bond. Despite his marital status, Simplicio felt a deep calling to serve the Church and its flock. This conviction led him to dedicate his life to the priesthood. Recognizing his piety, knowledge, and leadership qualities, Simplicio was ordained as a priest and was eventually appointed as the Bishop of Autun, Gaul (which is now modern-day France). As a bishop, he carried out his pastoral duties with great zeal and commitment, striving to spread the teachings of the Gospel and the love of Christ to his diocese. During his time as bishop, Simplicio worked diligently to promote unity and faithfulness among the clergy, encouraging them to live lives of holiness and to uphold the traditions of the Church.
