Biography

Saint Severino Gallo was a renowned Catholic saint who lived during the early 15th century. As a Mercedarian friar, Severino embarked on numerous humanitarian missions, journeying to the turbulent regions of North Africa in an effort to ransom Christians enslaved by Muslims. It was during one of these perilous missions that he encountered severe adversity. The year was 1419 when a Muslim prince captured Severino, holding him captive and demanding his conversion to Islam. Despite being subjected to intense pressure and the threat of torture, Severino remained steadfast in his devotion to the Catholic faith. He adamantly refused to renounce his beliefs and embrace Islam. His refusal to convert sealed his fate, marking him as a martyr for his faith. In the face of relentless persecution, Severino endured excruciating torture at the hands of his captors. The cruelty he endured is said to have been unimaginable, with Severino suffering unspeakable torment. Ultimately, he was tortured and then nailed to a pole, left to die from the shock, trauma, and blood loss inflicted upon him.
