Biography

Saint Rheticus of Autun, also known as Rheticius, Reticius, Rhétice, and Reticio, was a Gallo-Roman bishop who lived during the 4th century. He was born in the region of Gaul, which is modern-day France, and became widely known for his profound knowledge of Scripture. Both Saints Augustine of Hippo and Jerome wrote about his profound understanding of the scriptures, attesting to his reputation as a learned and esteemed bishop. Very little is known about Saint Rheticus' early life and background. However, it is believed that he received his education in Autun, a city in central France. He dedicated himself to the study and understanding of the Scriptures, delving deep into the teachings of the Church Fathers and the writings of early Christian theologians. Rheticus' exceptional knowledge and insight into Scripture led to his appointment as the Bishop of Autun around the year 310.
