Biography

Saint Regulus of Senlis, also known as Rieul or Rule, was the first bishop of Civitas Silvanectium, which is present-day Senlis, France. Unfortunately, very little information is available about his early life, including his birth date. However, it is believed that he lived during the 3rd century. Regulus was an apostle of the Christian faith, spreading the teachings of Jesus Christ to the people of Gaul during a time when persecution of Christians was rampant. Regulus, filled with a deep devotion to his faith, fearlessly preached the Gospel, despite the dangers and potential consequences he faced. His unwavering commitment to his mission and the growth of the Christian community in Senlis led to his eventual appointment as the first bishop of Civitas Silvanectium. As bishop, Regulus worked tirelessly to guide and shepherd his flock, providing spiritual nourishment, and leading his community towards a closer relationship with God. However, his life was not without challenges. During the reign of the Roman Emperor Valerian, Christians were subjected to severe persecution. Regulus faced adversity, witnessing the imprisonment, torture, and execution of many faithful followers of Christ. Yet, he refused to renounce his faith, standing firm in his conviction till the end. Regulus was known for his deep humility and unwavering commitment to his role as bishop. He was respected and admired by his community for his unwavering faith and his compassionate nature. He dedicated himself to helping the poor, feeding the hungry, and providing solace to the afflicted. Regulus died around the year 260 in Senlis, France, a martyr for his faith. His courage and sacrifice in the face of persecution earned him a place in the canon of saints, even before the formal establishment of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. He was venerated as a saint by the early Christians of Senlis, who recognized his sanctity and holiness. Today, Saint Regulus of Senlis is honored as the patron saint of Senlis, France. His feast day is celebrated on March 30th, a day dedicated to remembering his life, his faith, and his selfless dedication to the service of God and his community. Though not much is known about his physical appearance or any specific symbols associated with him, Saint Regulus continues to inspire believers with his unwavering faith and selfless commitment to the Gospel.
