Biography

Saint Parisius, also known as Parisio, was born in the year 1160, in either Treviso or Bologna, Italy, although historical records vary regarding his birthplace. At a young age, Parisius was drawn to a life of devotion and holiness, and at the age of 12, he entered the Camaldolese monastery of Saint Michael's. As a young monk, Parisius embraced the contemplative life and dedicated himself wholeheartedly to prayer, study, and manual labor. His deep spirituality and devotion quickly became evident, and he was soon recognized for his piety and wisdom. Parisius's spiritual journey led him to become a hermit, seeking a more solitary and austere way of life within the monastery. Parisius's reputation as a holy man grew steadily, and he was eventually ordained a priest. His gentle and compassionate nature made him well-suited for pastoral work, and he was later appointed as the chaplain and spiritual director of the Saint Christina convent in Treviso in the year 1191. He served in this role for an astounding 72 years, guiding the nuns in their spiritual growth and offering them much-needed guidance and support. Additionally, Saint Parisius played a crucial role in caring for the spiritual needs of pilgrims and the sick at the All Saints Hospice, located within his monastery. His unwavering faith and dedication to relieving the suffering of others made him a beloved figure within the hospice and the wider community. Even during his lifetime, Saint Parisius was renowned for his miracles and the gift of prophecy that he possessed. Countless testimonies attested to the miraculous healings and divine interventions that occurred through his intercession. Many sought his counsel and guidance, flocking to him for his wise and compassionate advice. Saint Parisius remained active and deeply committed to his spiritual duties throughout his long life. He continued to care for the spiritual needs of others, even as his physical strength waned with age. He became a symbol of unwavering faith, perseverance, and selflessness. On June 11, 1267, Saint Parisius passed away peacefully at the age of 107, having lived a life dedicated to serving God and his fellow human beings. His relics were enshrined in the cathedral of Treviso, Italy, a testament to the profound impact he had on the lives of many. Recognizing his extraordinary holiness and the multitude of miracles attributed to his intercession, Bishop Alberto Rich of Treviso canonized Saint Parisius on November 25, 1268. The canonization process of that time deemed the bishop's actions valid, further solidifying Saint Parisius's place among the saints of the Catholic Church. Though Saint Parisius has not been officially designated as the patron saint of any particular cause or group, his example of deep faith, humility, and dedication to serving others continues to inspire countless souls today. His feast day is celebrated on June 11th, a day to honor his memory and seek his intercession for our own spiritual needs.
