Biography

Saint Prudentius of Troyes, originally known as Galindo, was a devout priest and bishop who lived during the 9th century. Little is known about his early life, but historical documents suggest that as a young man, he fled from Spain to France to escape the Saracen invaders. It was during this period that he changed his name to Prudentius.

Prudentius settled in Troyes, located in present-day France, and dedicated himself to serving God and his community. He became known for his commitment to monastic reform and his efforts to restore monastic discipline. Prudentius recognized the importance of a strong spiritual foundation for the candidates to the priesthood and sought to teach them the essentials of faith.

To address this need, Prudentius created a unique combination catechism and breviary based on the Psalms. This innovative text not only provided a concise overview of Christian doctrine but also offered guidance and inspiration derived from the sacred poetry of the Psalms.
