Biography

Saint Praejectus of Clermont, also known as Preietto, Preils, Prejectus, Prest, Prie, Priest, Prix, Proietto, Projectus, and Pry, was born in 625 in Auvergne, France. He was born into a noble family and received a privileged upbringing. From a young age, Praejectus displayed a deep devotion to his faith, which led him to pursue a religious vocation. Praejectus received his early education under the tutelage of Saint Genesius of Clermont, a renowned scholar and spiritual advisor. Under Saint Genesius' guidance, Praejectus honed his knowledge of theology and became well-versed in the teachings of the Catholic Church. After completing his education, Praejectus was ordained a priest. Recognizing his intelligence, piety, and leadership qualities, the Church appointed him as the Bishop of Clermont, France in the year 666. As bishop, Praejectus devoted himself to the spiritual welfare of his flock and to the betterment of his diocese. Saint Praejectus was a compassionate and enlightened bishop who possessed great wisdom and humility. He was known for his piety, austerity, and the depth of his spiritual insights. He is remembered for his dedication to the poor and his commitment to caring for the sick. Praejectus's deep compassion led him to establish numerous monasteries, hospitals, and churches throughout his diocese, providing refuge, healing, and spiritual guidance to those in need. Praejectus also collaborated closely with a group of fellow saintly bishops and church leaders, including Saint Reol of Rheims, Saint Agilbert of Paris, Saint Amarinus of Clermont, and Saint Ouen of Rouen. Together, they worked tirelessly to promote the Gospel and strengthen the Church in their respective regions. Tragically, Saint Praejectus met his untimely demise on January 25, 676, at Volvic, France. He was brutally stabbed to death by a man named Agritius. It is believed that Agritius held Praejectus responsible for the arrest and execution of Hector, the lord of Marseilles. The motive for this act of violence was not related to Praejectus's faith, but rather a personal vendetta against him. Saint Praejectus's martyrdom and his unwavering dedication to his role as a bishop earned him immediate recognition as a martyr by the Catholic Church. His martyrdom served as a testament to his unwavering commitment to the teachings of Christ and his fearless defense of the Church. After his death, Saint Praejectus's relics were enshrined in Flavigny Abbey, Flavigny-sur-Ozerain, France, in the year 760. Over time, some of his relics were translated to Saint-Prix, France, in 1278, further spreading his veneration and influence. Saint Praejectus of Clermont is venerated as a pre-congregation saint, as his canonization predates the formal process established by the Catholic Church. He is honored on his feast day, which falls on January 25th each year. Saint Praejectus is regarded as a patron saint of Randazzo, Sicily, where his intercession is sought for various needs and intentions. Throughout his life, Saint Praejectus of Clermont exemplified the virtues of faith, compassion, and service to others. His enduring legacy continues to inspire and guide the faithful in their spiritual journeys, as he remains a shining example of devotion to God and the Church.
