He became a priest and diligently worked in the apostolic vicariate, serving the local community and spreading the teachings of Christianity. These persecutions were particularly severe, aimed at eradicating the growing presence of Catholicism in the country. Throughout his captivity, he was continuously pressured and ordered to renounce Christianity, denounce his faith, and embrace the Emperor's religious ideology. Despite the brutal mistreatment he endured, Phaolô Pham Khac Khoan never wavered in his faith. He refused to denounce Christianity, firmly clinging to his beliefs and principles. Tragically, on the 28th of April 1840, in Ninh Bình, Vietnam, Phaolô Pham Khac Khoan was beheaded, joining the ranks of countless others who gave their lives for their faith during this period of persecution. His martyrdom is a testament to his unwavering commitment to Christ and the Catholic Church. It wasn't until many years later, on the 19th of June 1988, that Phaolô Pham Khac Khoan was formally recognized for his heroic virtue and canonized as a saint by Pope John Paul II. This official recognition by the Catholic Church cemented his status as a revered martyr and a source of inspiration for believers around the world.
