Biography

Saint Paternus of Sens, also known as Saint Paternus of Cessier, was a monk hailing from Brittany in modern France. He is celebrated as a martyr and was born in the early 8th century. Although specific details about his early life are scarce, it is known that he dedicated his life to the monastic order. Paternus began his journey as a monk at Cessier, a village in France known for its religious community. Here, he fervently practiced asceticism and devoted himself to prayer and meditation. His dedication to God and his pursuit of spiritual enlightenment impressed his fellow monks and led to his reputation for holiness. After spending considerable time at Cessier, Paternus felt called to deepen his spiritual practice even further. He then relocated to the monastery of Saint-Pierre-le-Vif near Sens, a city in the Champagne region of France.
