Biography

Saint Pasicrates of Dorostorum, also known as Saint Pasicrates of Mysia, is recognized as one of the four martyrs who were executed together for their faith. Unfortunately, limited information regarding his life has been preserved. Saint Pasicrates lived during a period when Christianity faced severe persecution. Little is known about his background, family, or the circumstances that led to his conversion to Christianity. However, his strong devotion to the teachings of Jesus Christ and his unwavering faith in the face of persecution ultimately led to his martyrdom. Hailing from Dorostorum, a city located in Mysia, Asia Minor (present-day Bulgaria), Saint Pasicrates and his fellow martyrs faced tremendous challenges during the early years of Christianity. The exact timeline of their martyrdom remains uncertain, but it is believed to have occurred during the period of the Roman Empire's persecution of Christians. Although the details surrounding the execution of Saint Pasicrates and his companions remain unknown, the significance of their martyrdom lies in their steadfast commitment to their faith. In the face of persecution and the threat of death, they chose to remain faithful to their beliefs, even at the cost of their lives. Despite the lack of specific information regarding Saint Pasicrates' representation in art or any attributed patronages, his memory and sacrifice are celebrated annually on May 25th. On this day, the Catholic Church honors his life and martyrdom, recognizing him as a saint. While Saint Pasicrates of Dorostorum's canonization is a pre-congregation, meaning it occurred before the current process of canonization was established by the Catholic Church, his status as a saint is still acknowledged and revered by the faithful. As a saint scholar and assistant, it is my hope that this brief biography sheds some light on the life and martyrdom of Saint Pasicrates of Dorostorum, increasing knowledge and understanding of his significance in the Catholic faith.
