Biography

Saint Olympus of Aenos was a prominent figure in the history of the Catholic Church and a staunch opponent of Arianism. Born in an unknown year, he was believed to have lived during the fourth century, around the same time as Saint Athanasius. Saint Olympus served as the Bishop of Aenos, a city located in Rumelia, which is modern-day Enez, Turkey. During his time as bishop, he encountered great adversity due to his unwavering opposition to the Arian heresy. Arianism was a theological belief that denied the divinity of Jesus Christ and was supported by the Arian emperor Constantius II. Because of his resistance to Arianism, Saint Olympus faced persecution and was eventually forced to leave his diocese by the Arian emperor. Despite the challenges he faced, he continued to defend the orthodox teachings of the Church and work towards the preservation of true Catholic doctrine. Although there is limited information available about the specific accomplishments of Saint Olympus, his firm stance against Arianism and his willingness to endure persecution for his faith made him a notable figure in the early Church. His dedication to defending the divinity of Christ was in line with the teachings of Saint Athanasius, with whom he is considered to be a contemporary. Saint Olympus of Aenos passed away in the year 343, dying a natural death. His commitment to the Catholic faith and his opposition to Arianism earned him great respect among the faithful. While he was not officially recognized as a patron saint for any specific cause or profession, his courageous stand against heresy continues to inspire Catholics around the world.
