At an early age, Numerian felt a calling to the religious life and entered the Benedictine Order, becoming a monk at Remiremont Abbey. There, he dedicated himself to a life of prayer, contemplation, and devotion to God. His deep spiritual yearning led him to seek further spiritual guidance, and he traveled to Treves and Luxeuil, France, to study under the renowned saints Arnulf and Waldebert. Under the tutelage of these esteemed mentors, Numerian's spiritual growth flourished. He continued his religious education with great fervor, studying sacred texts and immersing himself in the teachings of the Church. Numerian's commitment to his faith and his diligent pursuit of knowledge soon earned him a reputation as a devout and wise monk. Recognizing his exceptional qualities and his unwavering commitment to the faith, Numerian was ordained a bishop. He became the bishop of Trier, a position of significant influence and responsibility within the Church. As a bishop, Numerian dedicated himself to the pastoral care of his diocese, guiding and nurturing his flock in their spiritual journeys. Throughout his tenure as bishop, Numerian proved to be a compassionate and dedicated shepherd. He focused on promoting unity within his diocese and encouraged the faithful to lead lives rooted in love and obedience to God's commandments.
