Biography

Saint Imina of Würzburg, also known as Imma or Immina, was born around the year 700 in Würzburg, Germany. She was the beloved daughter of Duke Hedan II of Thuringia, a prominent noble in the region. Having been raised in a devout Christian family, Imina cultivated a strong faith from an early age. Imina's life was marked by acts of charity and piety. One of her most notable acts was her donation of the Marienburg castle, located in Würzburg, to Bishop Burkhard. This generous gift served as a significant contribution to the Church, enabling the bishop to establish a religious community within the castle walls. As a result of her selfless act, Imina was venerated for her profound commitment to the spiritual wellbeing of her community. Motivated by an inner calling, Imina made the decision to retire from public life and devote herself entirely to a monastic existence. She entered the religious life and subsequently became an abbess at Karlburg, in the region of Franconia. As an abbess, Imina zealously guided her sisters and instilled in them the virtues of humility, prayer, and service. She led by example, demonstrating unwavering love for God and sincere devotion to her fellow nuns. In addition to her role as an abbess, Imina dedicated herself to the pursuit of holiness through contemplation and prayer. Her deep spirituality was an inspiration to all those who sought her counsel. She provided spiritual guidance not only to her fellow nuns but also to the wider community, offering comfort and solace to those in need. Saint Imina of Würzburg lived a life of remarkable holiness and virtue until she passed away in the year 752.
