Biography

Saint Mura McFeredach, also known as Murames McFeredach, Muran McFeredach, Murin of Fahan, or Mura of Fahan, was born around 550 in County Donegal, Ireland. He was a prominent figure in early Irish Christianity and is remembered as the Abbot of Fahan (Othan Mor), a position to which he was appointed by Saint Columba. Saint Mura was a close friend of King Hugh of Ireland and played an influential role in the spiritual life of his community. He was particularly known as a spiritual teacher and had the honor of mentoring Saint Laserian of Leighlin, who would go on to become a well-respected saint himself. As a member of the O'Neill clan, Saint Mura held a position of prestige within his community. His lineage and connection to prominent families helped strengthen his influence and allowed him to guide the people towards a deeper understanding of the Christian faith. One of Saint Mura's significant contributions was his writings. He authored several works, including a rhymed biography of Saint Columba. The ruins of the church dedicated to Saint Mura, located in Fahan, house a beautiful Irish cross, serving as a testament to the impact he made in the area. He is considered a patron saint of Fahan, Ireland, as well as the O'Neill clan.
