Biography

Saint Molagga of Fermoy, also known as Molagga of Fulachmhin, Laicin of Fermoy, and Molacca of Fermoy, was a remarkable Celtic saint and spiritual student of Saint David of Wales. Born in Ireland, he lived during the 7th century and is best known for his founding of the Fermoy monastery in Wales, where he served as its first abbot. Not much is known about Saint Molagga's early life, but it is believed that he was born in Ireland and received a thorough education in both secular and spiritual matters. Given his association with Saint David of Wales, it is probable that he ventured to Wales to further his spiritual studies under the guidance of this renowned Welsh saint. Molagga's devotion to his faith compelled him to establish the Fermoy monastery, which is situated in what is now modern-day Wales. The exact date of the monastery's foundation remains uncertain, but it is known that Saint Molagga played a significant role in its establishment.
