Biography

Saint Midan of Anglesey, also known as Idan or Nidan, was a priest and confessor who played a significant role in the spread of Christianity in Wales and Scotland during the sixth century. Born in Wales, Saint Midan was a devoted student of Saint Kentigern, also known as Saint Mungo, who was the founder of the prominent monastery in Glasgow. Under Saint Kentigern's guidance, Midan received a profound spiritual education, which deeply influenced his future ministry. Saint Midan's primary place of service was the Penmon monastery on the island of Anglesey in Wales. There, he worked closely with Saint Seiriol, another renowned Welsh Saint. Together, they built churches and spread the teachings of Christianity among the local population. Midan's commitment and dedication to his faith did not go unnoticed, and he was eventually ordained as a priest. Throughout his priesthood, he maintained unwavering devotion to God and diligently provided spiritual guidance and support to those who sought it. In addition to his work in Wales, Saint Midan also embarked on a missionary journey to the area of Midmar in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. As a missionary bishop, he played a crucial role in spreading the Christian faith in this region. Midan's efforts contributed to the establishment of a strong Christian community in Aberdeenshire that thrived long after his passing. Saint Midan's ministry was characterized by deep compassion and a genuine desire to serve God and his fellow human beings. His relics were enshrined in a church in Llanidan, Anglesey, Wales, where he had served for many years.
