He was born on 18 October 1594 in Carracedo de Vidriales, Zamora, Spain. Lucas Alonso Gorda joined the Dominican Order and was known for his zeal and dedication to spreading the Gospel. He embarked on a mission to evangelize in faraway lands, desiring to bring the light of Christ to those who had not yet heard the message of salvation. In the early 17th century, Lucas Alonso Gorda set out for Japan, a country where Christians faced increasing persecution. Despite the dangers and hardships that awaited him, he remained steadfast in his mission to preach the Gospel and provide spiritual guidance to the faithful. He became a martyr, willingly sacrificing his life in defense of his beliefs. The inspiring faith and devotion displayed by Lucas Alonso Gorda touched the hearts of many, and his reputation for holiness and martyrdom quickly spread. As a result, he was venerated by the Catholic Church. On 11 October 1980, Pope John Paul II officially recognized the martyrdom of Lucas Alonso Gorda, declaring him venerable. Then, on 18 February 1981, Pope John Paul II beatified him, recognizing his heroic virtue and his ultimate sacrifice for the faith.
