Saint Lasrén Mac Feradaig, also known as Lasrén of Iona, was a prominent figure in the early Christian history of Ireland. Born in the 6th century, he was both a cousin and a spiritual student of Saint Columba, the renowned Irish missionary and founder of the monastery at Iona. Lasrén Mac Feradaig spent his formative years in the abbey of Iona, where he received an exceptional education under the guidance of Saint Columba. As a close relative, Lasrén enjoyed a special relationship with Columba, who recognized his potential for leadership and spiritual guidance. In due course, Lasrén's virtue and admirable character caught the attention of his peers, and he was appointed as the abbot of the renowned monastery of Durrow, located in what is now County Offaly, Ireland. His tenure as the abbot of Durrow marked a period of significant growth and influence for the monastery. However, Lasrén's association with Iona remained strong, and in time, he became the third abbot of the famous abbey. He succeeded Saint Baithéne, who had succeeded Saint Columba himself in the position.
