Saint Landulf of Yariglia, also known as Landulf of Asti, Landulf of Vareglate, and Landulfo, was a prominent figure in the Catholic Church during the 12th century. Born in the latter part of the 11th century in Vergiate, Milan, Italy, Landulf would go on to become a revered bishop and spiritual leader. Landulf began his religious education at the Benedictine monastery of San Pietro in Ciel d'Oro in Pavia, where he showed great promise and a deep piety. After completing his studies, he was ordained as a priest and joined the Canon of Milan, Italy. His profound knowledge of theology and spirituality quickly gained him recognition and respect among his fellow clergy. In 1105, Landulf was appointed as the Bishop of Asti, Italy. This prestigious position also included the civil government of the city, making him not only a spiritual leader but also a key figure in the administration of Asti. As bishop, Landulf was dedicated to promoting the Christian faith and attending to the pastoral needs of his flock. He worked tirelessly to improve the lives of his parishioners, fostering a sense of unity and providing them with guidance and support. In his role as bishop, Landulf was known for his humility, compassion, and strong sense of justice. He advocated for the rights of the poor and marginalized, using his influence to address social issues and alleviate the suffering of those in need. His commitment to justice earned him the admiration of many, both within and outside the church. Landulf's efforts to promote moral and ethical values also extended beyond his immediate diocese. He sought to foster unity and reconciliation among various factions and communities, working towards the greater good of the Church and society as a whole. His dedication to fostering peace and harmony became one of his defining legacies. Saint Landulf of Yariglia's devotion and commitment to spreading the teachings of the Catholic Church influenced countless lives during his time as bishop. He was known for his exemplary leadership, integrity, and unwavering faith. Saint Landulf died around the year 1133 and was interred in a marble sarcophagus. At some point soon after 1450, his relics were moved to the altar of the chapel of Saint Agnes at the cathedral of Asti, Italy. Feast days in his honor are celebrated on 7th June and 1st June on some calendars. Although not specifically associated with any particular patronage, Saint Landulf continues to inspire believers with his virtuous life and dedication to the Gospel. His memory and example serve as a reminder of the lasting impact that faith, justice, and compassion can have on the world.
