Biography

Saint Justinian of Limoges, also known as Saint Justinian of Aniane, is not widely recognized, but his story is one of faith and intercession. Born to pagan parents, Aniano and Giusta, they were converted to Christianity through the influence of Saint Martial of Limoges. When the couple expressed their desire for a child, Saint Martial advised them to pray fervently for this intention. Not long after their prayers began, Giusta became pregnant, a miracle that they attributed to the intercession of Saint Martial. Overjoyed, Aniano and Giusta took their newborn son, Justinian, to be baptized by Saint Martial himself. However, tragedy struck when the little boy died tragically at only four days old as his parents were returning home. Devastated by the loss of their precious child, Aniano and Giusta sought solace in their newfound faith. They believed that their son had been received into heaven due to his pure innocence and the prayers of Saint Martial. The grieving parents, as well as other local converts, began to pray for Justinian's intercession, seeking his assistance in their daily struggles. To their astonishment, they began to experience miraculous help in their lives, which they attributed to the intercession of Saint Justinian. These miracles fostered an increased devotion to him and solidified the faith of Aniano, Giusta, and the local community of believers. News of these extraordinary events quickly spread, drawing many to seek Justinian's intercession in their own lives. Saint Justinian of Limoges, though his earthly life was cut tragically short, became revered for his supposed intercession on behalf of those who sought his help. Countless stories of answered prayers, healings, and other remarkable occurrences are associated with him. Though not officially recognized as a canonized saint by the Church, his memory is still honored, particularly in the Diocese of Limoges, France, where he is venerated on 16th July.
