Saint Ioannes Baptista Luo Tingyin, also known as John Lo, John Baptist Lo, John Baptist Leo, Johannes Baptist Luo Tingyin, Ruohan, and Ting Ying Luo, was a married layman servant who lived in the apostolic vicariate of Guizhou, China. He was born around 1825 in Qingyian, Guiyang, Guizhou, China. Luo Tingyin was a devout follower of the Catholic faith and eventually converted to Christianity. He lived during a time of intense persecution against Catholics in China, where the practice of their faith was heavily restricted. Despite the risks involved, Luo Tingyin continued to embrace his newfound faith and served as a steadfast witness to Christ. As a married layman, Luo Tingyin dedicated himself to the service of the apostolic vicariate of Guizhou. He generously offered his time, talents, and resources to support the growth of the Catholic community in his region. Luo Tingyin's faith was tested when the government intensified its efforts to suppress Christianity in China. In the face of persecution, he remained steadfast and resolute in his conviction. Ultimately, Luo Tingyin's unwavering commitment to his faith and refusal to renounce his Christian beliefs led to his martyrdom. Luo Tingyin is counted among the Martyrs of China, a group of countless men and women who sacrificed their lives for the sake of their Christian faith. His martyrdom was recognized and affirmed by Pope Pius X, who declared him a martyr on 2 August 1908. In recognition of his virtuous life, courageous testimony, and martyrdom, Luo Tingyin was beatified by Pope Pius X on 2 May 1909. Finally, on 1 October 2000, Pope John Paul II elevated him to sainthood, officially canonizing him as a saint of the Catholic Church. Although there is limited information about Luo Tingyin's patronage, his life and witness continue to inspire and serve as a shining example of faith under persecution.
