Saint Herefrith of Lindsey, also known as Herefrith of Thorney, was a pre-congregation saint and Bishop of Lindsey in England during the 9th century. Born in the 9th century, little is known about his early life or family background. Herefrith dedicated his life to serving God and the Church, rising in the ranks to become the bishop of Lindsey, a diocese located in the region that is now Lincolnshire. During his time as bishop, Herefrith faced many challenges and difficulties, particularly due to the ongoing Viking invasions in the area. The Danish Vikings posed a constant threat to the Christian communities in England, and Lindsey was not spared from their pillaging and violence. Unfortunately, the relentless Viking raids eventually resulted in Saint Herefrith's martyrdom. He was captured and executed by the Danes for his unwavering commitment to his Christian beliefs.
