Saint Herbert Hoscam, also known as Saint Herbert of Conza, was an eminent figure in the Catholic Church during the 12th century. Born in England, his specific birthdate is unknown, but he lived during a time of great upheaval and religious change. Saint Herbert dedicated his life to the service of God and became widely respected for his piety, orthodox teaching, and leadership as Archbishop of Conza, a town located in Basilicata, Italy. Saint Herbert's important role as Archbishop of Conza led him to attend the Third Lateran Council in 1179, where he actively participated and contributed to the discussions and resolutions of the Council. This council, called by Pope Alexander III, aimed to strengthen the Church's authority and address various issues, including heresy and clerical discipline. Throughout his life, Saint Herbert was known for his unwavering devotion to the Catholic faith and his commitment to teaching true doctrine. Today, Saint Herbert of Conza is venerated as the patron saint of Conza, Italy. As a post-congregation saint, his feast day is celebrated on August 20th.
