Biography

Saint Gallicanus was a distinguished figure in Roman history as a ranking officer in the imperial army of Constantine the Great and as a Roman consul. Born in the 4th century, Gallicanus dedicated a significant portion of his life to serving the needs of others, especially the sick. After a long and successful career in the military and politics, Gallicanus made a profound decision in 330. He retired from his military and political duties and relocated to the coastal town of Ostia. It was there that he embarked on a new mission, founding a hospital with the primary goal of caring for the sick and vulnerable members of society.
