Biography

Saint Fricor, also known as Adrian, Frechor, Frechorius, Frichor, Fricoraeus, and the Apostle of Picardy, was a monk and spiritual student of Saint Columba of Iona. Born in Ireland, he dedicated his life to the service of God and sought to spread the message of Christianity to those in need. In the year 622, Saint Fricor embarked on a missionary journey to the Picardy region of northern France. There, he joined forces with another esteemed saint, Saint Caidoc, to carry out their divine mission. Together, they worked tirelessly to convert the local inhabitants to the Christian faith. One of their most significant achievements was the conversion of Saint Richarius of Celles, who later became a fervent supporter and protector of the two missionaries. Despite facing numerous challenges and opposition from the pagan inhabitants of the region, Saint Fricor remained steadfast in his mission. He dedicated himself to spreading the teachings of Christianity and leading others towards spiritual enlightenment. His efforts bore fruit, as many individuals in Picardy embraced the Christian faith under his guidance. Saint Fricor's life was marked by his unwavering devotion to God and his commitment to sharing the Gospel. He displayed great humility and selflessness, always prioritizing the spiritual welfare of others above his own. His gentle and compassionate nature touched the hearts of many, drawing them towards the message of Christianity. Saint Fricor's missionary journey came to an end around the year 630 when he passed away in Centula, which is now known as St-Riquier, France. Following his death, his relics were interred in the parish of Saint-Riquier near Amiens, France, where they remain preserved to this day. Saint Fricor was venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church even before the formal canonization process was established. His exemplary life of faith and devotion earned him a place among the holy men and women of the Pre-Congregation era. While not explicitly associated with a specific patronage, Saint Fricor serves as an inspiration to all who aspire to live a life dedicated to God's work. His feast days are celebrated on April 1 and May 30 on certain calendars, commemorating his life and the impact he made on the Christian community.
