Biography

Saint Fraternus of Auxerre, also known as Fraterno, was a prominent figure in the early Christian Church as the Bishop of Auxerre in France. He is recognized as a martyr, having endured persecution and eventually losing his life for his unwavering commitment to the Catholic faith. Born in an era where Christianity was still emerging as the dominant religion, Fraternus dedicated his life to spreading the teachings of Christ and guiding his community towards salvation. As a bishop, he held a position of significant influence and responsibility, serving as a spiritual leader for the people of Auxerre. Although there is little information available about Fraternus' early life and upbringing, his impact as a bishop is well-documented. In 1634, his relics were re-enshrined, emphasizing the continued veneration and reverence for this esteemed saint. Although Saint Fraternus does not have any specific patronages or representations associated with him, his legacy lives on as a symbol of steadfast faith and devotion to God. His feast days are internationally recognized and celebrated on 29th September and 6th October according to the Ordo of Sens.
