Very little is known about Saint Fidolus' early life, but according to historical accounts, he was the son of an official in Auvergne. In a tragic turn of events, Fidolus was kidnapped and subsequently sold into slavery. However, his misfortune turned into a blessing when Abbot Aventinus of Aumont Abbey, located near Troyes in France, ransomed him and provided him with an opportunity for a new life. Inspired by Abbot Aventinus and his faith, Fidolus embraced the monastic life and became a monk himself.
