Biography

Saint Felix of Salona, also known as Felix of Epetium, Felix of Martana, Felix of Spalato, Felix of Spello, Felix of Split, Felix of Spoleto, Felix of Stobrec, or Felice, was a bishop who was martyred in the persecutions of Diocletian. He is venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church. Not much is known about Saint Felix's early life or his family background. He was born in the city of Salona, located in present-day Dalmatia, Croatia, during the 3rd century. At a young age, he embraced the Christian faith, and his devotion to the Church led him to pursue a life of service in the clergy. Felix was ordained as a bishop, and he became known for his piety, wisdom, and zeal in spreading the Gospel. He fearlessly preached the Christian message despite the growing hostility towards Christians during the reign of the Roman Emperor Diocletian. During this time, Christians faced severe persecutions and were often forced to renounce their faith or face torture and death. Saint Felix, however, remained steadfast in his commitment to Christ and refused to denounce his beliefs. In the year 304, Saint Felix was arrested and brought before the authorities for his refusal to adhere to the Roman pagan practices. Despite facing threats, torture, and the prospect of a violent death, he remained unwavering in his faith, inspiring many others around him. Eventually, Saint Felix was sentenced to death for his refusal to renounce Christianity and offer sacrifices to the Roman gods. He was executed in the city of Salona, where he had served as bishop. The exact details of his martyrdom are not well-documented, but it is believed that he was either beheaded or crucified. After his death, Saint Felix was deeply revered by the Christian community, who regarded him as a martyr and a saint. His steadfast faith and courage inspired many others to stand up for their beliefs, even in the face of persecution. Saint Felix of Salona's feast day is celebrated on May 18th in the Catholic Church. While he did not have any specific patronage assigned to him, he remains a powerful intercessor for all those facing persecution for their faith. Although very little is known about his physical appearance or any specific miracles attributed to him, Saint Felix's legacy lives on as an example of unwavering faith and commitment to Christ in the face of adversity. He is remembered as a courageous bishop who died for his beliefs and continues to inspire believers to this day.
