Biography

Saint Evermod of Ratzeburg, also known as Evermode, was a renowned Catholic priest and evangelist, closely associated with Saint Norbert. He was born in the early 12th century, and rose to prominence for his devoted service to the church and his unwavering faith. Evermod's early life remains mostly unknown, but it is believed that he was born in Germany, possibly in the region of Ratzeburg. Inspired by the teachings of Christ and the example set by Saint Norbert, Evermod dedicated himself to the service of God. He became a well-respected priest, known for his humility, piety, and fervent desire to spread the message of the Gospel. It was through his close association with Saint Norbert, the founder of the Premonstratensian Order, that Evermod's mission and influence grew. He joined Saint Norbert in his evangelization efforts, traveling throughout Germany to preach the word of God and convert many to Christianity. Evermod's exceptional devotion and spiritual insight led him to be appointed as the Abbot of Gottesgnaden, a Premonstratensian abbey located in Magdeburg. As abbot, he guided the brothers of the order in living lives of prayer, obedience, and communal life according to the rule of Saint Augustine. Under Evermod's leadership, the abbey flourished both spiritually and materially, becoming a beacon of faith and a center of learning. Due to his exemplary character and his remarkable administrative abilities, Evermod was chosen to be the Bishop of Ratzeburg. This appointment brought immense responsibilities, as he was tasked with shepherding the faithful and overseeing the spiritual needs of the diocese.
