Biography

Saint Dositeus, also known as Saint Dositeus the Layman, lived during the medieval times and his feast day is celebrated on February 19th. He is considered a Pre-Congregation saint, which means he was canonized prior to the formal establishment of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints in the Catholic Church. Dositeus began his life as a layman, serving as a page to a senior army officer. However, his life took a dramatic turn during a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. It was during this pilgrimage that Dositeus encountered a painting depicting the torments of Hell.
