Biography

Saint Domninus, also known as Donnino, was a devout Catholic soldier who served as a personal attendant to the Roman emperor Maximian Herculeus in Milan, Italy. Born in Parma, Italy, Domninus dedicated his life to serving both God and his country. As a soldier, Domninus displayed unwavering loyalty and commitment to his duties. However, his life took a significant turn when he encountered Christianity and experienced a profound conversion. Moved by the teachings of Christ, Domninus embraced the faith and became a devout follower. However, during this time, anti-Christian persecutions were rampant. Recognizing the danger he faced, Domninus decided to flee from Milan to protect his newfound faith. Unfortunately, his escape was short-lived as he was captured by authorities who were hunting down Christians. Upon being apprehended, Domninus was immediately sentenced to death for his refusal to renounce his Christian beliefs. In a display of unwavering devotion, he faced martyrdom with great courage and determination. On 9 October 299, Domninus was beheaded on the Via Claudia at Borgo San Donnino near Parma, Italy. The legacy of Saint Domninus lives on through his martyrdom and the impact he had on his community. His relics were enshrined in a silver urn and can be found under the altar of the cathedral of the Diocese of Fidenza, Italy. The city of Fidenza, the diocese of Fidenza, and several other places in Italy recognize him as their patron saint. Saint Domninus is venerated on 9 October as his feast day. His canonization occurred in the Pre-Congregation era, affirming his sanctity and devoted life to God. In particular, Castelfranco Emilia, Credera Rubbiano, Dernice, and Montecchio Emilia in Italy hold Saint Domninus as their patron. These places continue to honor his memory and seek his intercession in matters of faith and protection. Throughout his life, Saint Domninus exemplified the ideals of faith, courage, and devotion to God. His unwavering commitment to his Christian beliefs and martyrdom continue to inspire generations of believers, reminding us of the sacrifices made for the sake of faith, even in the face of persecution.
