Biography

Saint Benjamin The Deacon, also known simply as Benjamin, was a faithful servant of the Catholic Church in Persia during the 5th century. Born in Persia, he dedicated his life to spreading the word of Christianity and helping those in need. Benjamin's dedication to the faith eventually caught the attention of the authorities, and he was imprisoned for a year due to his unwavering belief in Christianity. In order to gain his freedom, Benjamin was forced to make a solemn promise never to speak about Christianity where he could be heard by any member of the royal court. However, this did not deter him from his mission. After being released from prison, Benjamin became a street preacher, going wherever he could find people to share the Gospel. His fearless proclamation of the Word of God led to his arrest yet again, this time by order of the persecuting King Varanes. Despite facing immense torture and suffering, Benjamin remained steadfast in his faith, refusing to renounce his Christian beliefs. After enduring unimaginable torment for staying true to Christianity, Saint Benjamin The Deacon was ultimately martyred. He was impaled on a stake around the year 424 in Persia, leaving behind a legacy of faith and courage. Although there is limited information about Saint Benjamin's representation in art, it is believed that his image may have been depicted in various forms as a deacon, given his role and title within the Church. As a pre-congregation saint, Saint Benjamin The Deacon was recognized as a holy figure prior to the formal establishment of the canonization process. His life and martyrdom have been venerated for centuries, serving as an inspiration and example of unwavering devotion to the Catholic faith. While there is no specific feast day assigned to Saint Benjamin, his memorial day is celebrated on March 31st to honor his memory and the sacrifices he made for his faith.
