Biography

Saint Dolcelinus, also known as Dolcelino or Doucelin, was a spiritual student of the renowned Saint Martin of Tours. He dedicated his life to spreading the teachings of Christianity as a missionary priest and preacher in the region of Allones, Gaul, which is present-day France. Born in Allones, within the Diocese of Angers, France, Saint Dolcelinus grew up in a devout Catholic family. From an early age, he showed a deep inclination towards spirituality and a strong desire to serve God. Recognizing his potential and dedication, Saint Martin of Tours took him under his wing as a student. Under the guidance of Saint Martin, Dolcelinus received a comprehensive education in matters of faith, scripture, and spiritual practices. With a solid foundation in the teachings of the Church, he set out as a missionary priest to spread the Gospel among the pagan communities dwelling in the area of Allones. Saint Dolcelinus's mission was not an easy one. Gaul, at that time, was largely pagan, and the people adhered to ancient customs and polytheistic beliefs. Nevertheless, our determined saint fearlessly ventured into these communities to share the message of God's love and salvation through Jesus Christ. His engaging preaching style, coupled with his genuine compassion for the people, earned him the respect and trust of many. With great humility and patience, Dolcelinus worked tirelessly to dispel the misunderstandings about Christianity and to demonstrate the transformative power of the Gospel. Saint Dolcelinus not only preached the word of God but also championed acts of charity and compassion. He tirelessly attended to the sick, advocated for the marginalized, and offered solace to those in need. His selfless dedication and love for humanity left an indelible impact on the lives of many who encountered him. His relics were transferred to Varrains-les-Saumur, France, during the 5th century, where they are venerated to this day. While the exact date of his canonization is unknown, it is believed to have taken place during the Pre-Congregation period.
