Biography

Saint Dalmatius of Pavia, also known as Dalmatius of Pedona, Dalmazio, or Dalmazzo, was born in Monza, Lombardy, Italy. He was raised as a pagan but would later have a life-altering conversion to Christianity as an adult. After his conversion, Saint Dalmatius felt a deep calling to spread the message of Christ and dedicated himself to preaching in Gaul and northern Italy. His eloquence and fervor in proclaiming the Gospel attracted many people to the faith, and he gained a reputation for his passionate sermons and conversion works. In recognition of his unwavering faith and his ability to inspire others, Saint Dalmatius was appointed as the Bishop of Pavia, Italy. He served in this important role for the last year of his life, leading the faithful and shepherding the diocese with great devotion and love. Saint Dalmatius lived during a time of intense persecution under the Roman Emperor Maximian Herculeus.
