Saint Caerealis of Tivoli, also known as Caerealis of Rome, was an esteemed figure in early Christianity, particularly during the reign of Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century AD. Caerealis is recognized as a martyr for his unwavering faith and dedication to the Christian teachings. Little is known about the early life of Saint Caerealis, but historical records reveal that he served as an Imperial Roman guard under the Emperor Hadrian. It was during this time that Caerealis was entrusted by Hadrian to accompany Primitivus to arrest two Christian converts, namely Saint Getulius and Saint Amantius. Instead of carrying out their duty, the brothers managed to sway the hearts of Caerealis and Primitivus towards Christianity. Upon learning of the failed arrest and the subsequent conversion of his guards, Emperor Hadrian was furious. He commanded the judge Licinius to pass a death sentence on Caerealis, Primitivus, Getulius, and Amantius. However, Hadrian offered them a reprieve if they renounced their newfound faith. Unyielding in their commitment to Christ, they declined the emperor's offer, fully embracing martyrdom. The accounts of Caerealis' martyrdom state that he, along with his fellow Christians, was clubbed to death around the year 120 AD in Tivoli, Italy. Their brave and steadfast stance against renouncing Christianity earned them a place in the annals of Christian history. Although the specific representation and patronage of Saint Caerealis are not widely recorded, his martyrdom and unwavering faith make him a revered figure in the early Christian community. Despite the lack of detailed information about his life, Saint Caerealis is venerated for his courage and the ultimate sacrifice he made for his beliefs. Saint Caerealis' feast day is celebrated on June 10, commemorating his martyrdom. While his canonization occurred before the establishment of the formal Congregation for the Causes of Saints, his recognition as a saint by the Catholic Church predates this process.
