Saint Bertille of Thuringia

Biography

Saint Bertille of Thuringia, also known as Bertilia, was born into royalty as a princess. She lived during the 7th century and was married to Saint Walbert of Hainault, a nobleman known for his piety and devotion to God. Together, Bertille and Walbert raised two remarkable children, both of whom became saints themselves: Saint Waltrude and Saint Aldegundis. Little is known about Bertille's early life, but she was undoubtedly raised in an environment of wealth and privilege. However, she possessed a deep faith and a strong desire to serve God. When she married Walbert, the couple dedicated themselves to a life of Christian virtue and holiness. As a wife and mother, Bertille proved to be a loving and nurturing figure. She instilled in her children a deep sense of devotion to God and taught them the importance of kindness and charity. Both Waltrude and Aldegundis would go on to lead holy lives and make significant contributions to the Christian faith. Bertille's own devotion to God was evident in her daily life. She tirelessly cared for her family and sought to bring love and compassion to all those she encountered. Her pious example and unwavering faith inspired those around her to deepen their own relationship with God. Saint Bertille passed away around the year 660 of natural causes. On January 3rd of each year, the Catholic Church commemorates the feast day of Saint Bertille, celebrating her life and the many blessings she brought to the world through her exemplary Christian witness.
