Biography

Saint Bernard of Carinola, also known as Bernard of Capua, was born in 1040 in Capua, Italy. He was a priest, bishop, and a prominent figure in the Catholic Church during the 11th and 12th centuries. Bernard studied at the renowned Monte Cassino Abbey, where he received a solid education in theology and spiritual formation. During his time at Monte Cassino, Bernard became a spiritual student of the abbot, who would later become Pope Victor III. He also had the privilege of being a fellow student alongside Saint Peter Damian, another prominent figure in the Church. These formative years played a crucial role in shaping Bernard's spiritual life and deepening his understanding of the Catholic faith. After completing his studies, Bernard served as a counselor and chaplain to prince Jordan of Capua, Italy. Due to his exceptional character, Bernard was ultimately consecrated as Bishop of Forum Claudii on 21 March 1087.
