Biography

Saint Barbolenus of Fosses, also known as Babolen, was a revered Catholic saint who lived during the 7th century. Born around the year 625, he dedicated his life to the service of God as a monk and later became renowned as the Abbot of Saint Peter's Abbey, which would later be known as Saint Maur-des-Fossés. Barbolenus began his monastic journey at Luxeuil Abbey, located in Burgundy, modern-day France. Luxeuil Abbey was a prominent center of monasticism at the time, founded by the renowned Saint Columbanus. Under the spiritual guidance and formation at Luxeuil, Barbolenus grew in holiness and wisdom, becoming deeply committed to a life of prayer, asceticism, and the pursuit of God's will. Following his time at Luxeuil Abbey, Barbolenus was selected to lead Saint Peter's Abbey, situated in the northern region of France.
