Biography

Saint Demetria of Rome, also known as simply Demetria, was born to the pious couple, Saint Flavian and Saint Dafrosa, in Rome, Italy. She was the beloved daughter of these esteemed saints and grew up in a devout Christian family. Demetria had a sister named Bibiana, who also became a saint. During the reign of Emperor Julian the Apostate, Christians were severely persecuted. Saint Flavian and Saint Dafrosa, who were known for their unwavering faith, were arrested and martyred for their refusal to renounce Christianity. This tragic event left Demetria and Bibiana orphaned but with an unwavering commitment to their faith. Following the martyrdom of their parents, Demetria and Bibiana faced increased persecution themselves. They were both arrested for their refusal to denounce Christianity and were imprisoned to await their fate. However, during their journey to the prison, something remarkable happened. Demetria, filled with the strength of her faith, suddenly dropped dead before reaching her cell. It is believed that she died of the physical toll of the persecution she endured. Although Saint Demetria's representation is unknown, her sacrifice and commitment to her faith were not forgotten. She is venerated as a martyr for the Christian faith in Rome. Her feast day is celebrated on the 21st of June each year, honoring her devotion and sacrifice. Saint Demetria's relics were enshrined in the Church of Saint Bibiana in Rome.
