Biography

Saint Auedebertus of Senlis, also known as Auedeberto, Ausberto, Autberto, or Autbertus, was a prominent figure in the early Catholic Church as the Bishop of Senlis, France. While the exact dates of his birth and death have been lost to history, there are documents that contain his signature between 652 and 667, allowing us to place him in the late 7th century. Born in the early 7th century in Senlis, France, Auedebertus grew up in a time of great religious fervor and dedication to spreading the teachings of Christianity. From an early age, he showed extraordinary piety and a fervent desire to serve God and the Church. As a result, he embarked on a path towards priesthood and eventually rose to the esteemed position of Bishop of Senlis. As the bishop, Auedebertus dedicated himself to faithfully shepherding his flock, ensuring their spiritual well-being and leading them towards salvation. He became known for his humility, compassion, and tireless efforts to care for those entrusted to his pastoral care. His love for the people of Senlis was evident in his willingness to serve them with unwavering devotion. However, with age and the passing of time, Auedebertus felt a calling to a deeper form of spirituality. Late in life, he made the decision to retire from his episcopal duties, seeking a quieter and more contemplative existence as a prayerful monk. This transition allowed him to focus solely on his relationship with God and dedicate himself fully to a life of prayer and reflection. Auedebertus spent his final days immersed in deep prayer and contemplation. He found solace in the silence of the monastery, using his remaining time on earth to seek a profound union with God. His dedication to the contemplative life served as an example of humility, obedience, and complete surrender to the divine will. Saint Auedebertus of Senlis passed away in the late 7th century, succumbing to natural causes. His mortal remains were interred under the high altar of the church of Saint Regulus in Senlis, France, the city he had faithfully served as bishop. While Auedebertus was never officially assigned a specific representation, his legacy as a devoted bishop and contemplative monk continues to inspire the faithful. Although his canonization occurred before the establishment of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, Auedebertus remains recognized as a saint within the Catholic Church. Saint Auedebertus of Senlis is celebrated annually on February 9th, a day designated in his honor. Devotees around the world honor his memory and seek his intercession, particularly for those dedicated to a life of prayer and for the spiritual well-being of the faithful. Though not traditionally designated as a patron saint, Auedebertus is revered for his commitment to a life of holiness and devotion to God.
